A lovely coin, certainly big and heavy enough. The reason of course why these coins appear with edge knocks. The detail is as follows –
Obverse depicts draped bust to the right with wreath of 10 leaves and two berries, tied behind the neck with a riband showing two loops and one loose end. Hair hanging in curls behind the neck and a curl on each shoulder. The drapery is caught up on the shoulder with a brooch of six jewels. All within a broad raised rim bearing the legend around.
Reverse shows Britannia in clinging drapery, seated to the left on a rock, amidst waves. In her extended right hand she holds an olive branch bearing 10 leaves. Her left hand, held down, clasps a trident which leans against her left arm. By her left side is an oval shield bearing the combined crosses of St George and St Andrew. On the rock to the right are three dots (incuse) and below the shield is the wording SOHO. Before her, on the sea, is a ship with six gunports (incuse). All this is within a broad raised rim bearing the legend above and the date 1797 below.
