The Crux consetellation, otherwise known as the Southern Cross, is among the smallest and brightest of the eighty eight modern constellations. One of the most visible features of the southern night sky, its name is the Latin word for cross as it is predominantly a cross-shaped cluster. Its famous shape now adorns Australia’s first domed coin, a 99.9% pure silver five dollar, colour printed struck by the Royal Australian Mint.
This innovative dome-shaped coin is packaged in a presentation tin. The insert for the case has been designed
in such a way that the coin can be presented standing upright for all to see.
This coin won the Krause Publication 2014 Coin of the Year Award – Best Crown Coin
N.B. Unfortunately as with all Crux coins, the tin box the coin is housed in has gone sticky. The coin itself is in pristine condition as issued by the Royal Australian Mint.
