Since the devasting years of the Great War, the red poppy has become a vivid and resonant symbol for remembrance. While the flourishing of a bloom suggests renewal of life, for soldiers the vermillion-red petals symbolised the blood of fellow soldiers spilt on the Western Front, a symbol popularised by the poem “In Flanders Fields”.
This is a beautiful edition postal and numismatic cover houses the uncirculated mintmark version of Australia’s first $2 commemorative circulating coins. Depicting the red poppy, the $2 coin carries the “C” mintmark. The embellished miniature sheet was created specifically for this cover and features one stamp from the Rising Sun Badge stamp issue. That stamp depicts the badge currently used by the Australian Army.
