OUTSTANDING RARITY. Estimated remaining at less than 20 examples.

ELIZABETH II, Perth Mint, proof one ounce silver kookaburra, 2001, mule with two hundred dollars obverse in error. PCGS graded for surety FDC and extremely rare.
PCGS Certificate Verification

In 2001 The Perth Mint made an embarrassing mistake, when this error mule came to light. The Mint immediately recalled the Australian $200 silver kookaburra proof, but less than 20 estimated coins got into collectors hands.

It should have been a $1 not $200 struck on a one ounce silver planchet, the obverse design is that used on the proof two ounce $200 gold kangaroo and $200 platinum koala. All these coins have the same diameter of 40.6mm!

The error is referred to as a mule; a coin with obverse and reverse sides which are not normally matched by the issuing authority. Mules are normally the result of a mistake in the coining process when one half of a die pair is accidentally used with another half of a different die pair.
